#InLaymansTerms: The State Of The Union

The POTUS has spoken.

President Obama addressed the Nation last night with a plea for compromise between branches and parties. Here are the points of his speech that stood out to me:

Highlights:

Congress must put country before party.

Reduce taxpayers subsidies.

Elected officials must keep promises already made.

Tax reform

All parties must agree this time around or.... we all suffer!

Apple's Mac computers are slated to now be made in US.

Rid of tax loopholes and special interest tax breaks for the wealthy.

In order to be number one this country must invest in innovation.

If I had a shot for every time these words were spoken: Bipartisan, deficit, reform,

Sidebar Oddites:

Random clappers: 7

Michelle and other woman power clapping. (If we can see your muscular veins you're over doing it.)

Random standing ovations (We don't have all night.)

FLOTUS's dress: No bueno, Granny. ( All due respect.)

Someone please give John Boehner something to smile about!

Overall, the President's speech was inspiring to say the least. Hopefully, the relationship between Congress and the White House will smooth over this term in order to accomplish more for the country.

As always, I shall be standing by.

#TheQuench: TIME 2012 Person of the Year: President Barack Obama

Why so serious?

I'm not a big fan of this dark and dreary picture, but I am excited that the President made the cover.

Check out the article in TIME magazine on newstands everywhere.

#TheQuench: President Obama To Be Added To Mt. Rushmore

Woohoo!

The National Park Service formally announced that President Barack Obama's  face will be added to the historical Mount Rushmore in South Dakota! The modification is due September 2018.
The project aims to involve several hundred miners and engineers (Obama putting people back to work!) and will utilize state of the art machinery and green solvents to re-create Obama's bust in the area adjacent to the George Washington visage.
Sculptor Irving Gneus, who is overseeing the project for the Park Service, hinted at what Americans should expect as the final result, saying, "The intent was to have Obama facing the same direction as Lincoln, given the milestones in race relations that their Presidencies represent."
What a great way to kick off a new term!
